American Roy Thompson came to Bali in 1998 inconsolable after his girlfriend of several years dumped him. Roy being of lowly background, of which there is no shame, hated his job in the USA as an Administration Supervisor for the Medical Malpractice division of the Prudential in Boston. So Bali, with all those cheap prices, smiling faces, readily available dope (also at low prices), swaying palm trees, mystical "Gamelan" music, sunshine and 3rd world cost of living, like with so many other simpleton expats lured into making Bali their home, Roy decided he wanted to stay.

When Roy first arrived he did the normal foreigner thing of getting himself a Balinese girlfriend. Let me explain, like with many SE Asian countries, getting a girlfriend is easy, unless you want a decent girl in every way. Take pity on the girls of Indonesia and elsewhere who have to provide "other services" as so called "Night Butterflies"; their families make them do it. In Thailand they call these girls "bar hoes" and people often joke "You can take the girl out of the bar but you can never take the bar out of the girl!" but Balinese night butterflies are not the same, they are decent girls forced to making a living as best they can.

So it was, Roy got himself a Legian "girlfriend", but alas Roy became more and more attached to her. His small US money was big Bali bucks to his new found love, and over time she became more and more dedicated to him.

I believe Roy actually got besotted with his lady friend, but the fact is he also was having immigration office problems. As a "tourist" he had overstayed his visa several times over. He got away with the occaisonal "visa run" but was increasingly having to pay corruption bungs to immigration and police officers in Bali to get his "Bali fix". Finally, his Balinese lady became pregnant, though many will allege by a different patron, but Roy convinced himself the unborn child was his. So it was, he decided the time had come to marry his "former" night butterfly, Ni Nyoman Eri.

LOOK: eBay's Majabali caught red handed lying, cheating and selling illegal Indonesian antiques on eBay - proof of his criminal acts and the risk to his dumb eBay buyers.

Funny, Roy Thompson AKA eBay's majabali calls Mark Austin the Mad Hatter of Bali, in fact majabali has published a very nasty (though hilarious) and libellous blog called "the Mad Hatter of Bali" against Mark. But the truth is Mr. Austin neither comes from or lives in Bali and the only lunatic in all of this is majabali, the real sad mad hatter of Bali!

If you search on Google for the Mad Hatter of Bali you will find majabali's nasty, sick scrawl no problem. But if you want a really good laugh, go and see the eBay forum discussion about Illegal Antiquities on eBay - just look at the reasons majabali comes up with for not producing copies of export permits for what he sells on eBay!

Then, in a moment of clear utter madness, majabali decides to up the ante and brag about how big a player he is in the antiques world claiming to be "DHL's second largest exporter" and that the Managing Director of DHL Singapore (Scott Price) has been his guest (at majabali's home in Bali) three times! Hmmm, if majabali is such a big player, how come he does not invest some of the millions he makes in a new kitchen (which I am sure Scott Price would appreciate when it comes to washing up time). Here is majabali's full eBay profile picture in his / her / their kitchen!
But majabali goes on to show the world just how stupid and how much of liar he is by publishing photos of a delivery truck in his home's driveway claiming the boxes were an export of his of "2,500 pieces of Sung Dynasty Chinese porcelain from a shipwreck for delivery to a museum in Belgium". Before Majabali has the chance to have the pictures removed, I took a screen grab of them;

Notice the boxes?! Are these the sort of boxes you pack priceless 800 year old porcelain items into, or t-shirts?! And Roy seemed somehow lost to explain how he came to have treasures from a shipwreck at his house! Treasure hunters clearly hunt to make money by finding artifacts and then selling them (with a 50% share going to the Indonesian Government of course). When shipwrecked treasure is excavated in Indonesia, it is taken to a secure Customs warehouse at a port facility while identification, valuation and negotiations are carried out; they are not shipped to some foreign plonker's house in Ubud!

You have to laugh and yet feel sorry for mojofit at the same time. It is abundantly clear from the eBay discussion he ends up believing his own lies, like a sadly demented adolescent.

Cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo. Majabali is the real Mad Hatter of Bali.

Perhaps it is to be expected that Roy Thompson is mentally ill, in need of immediate psychiatric help (on an island with only witch AKA spiritual "doctors"). From many reports we can determine he did not have much of a life in the USA, he fell in "love" (lust, addiction to smiles and cheap everything) with Bali, he married a sex industry worker carrying another man's child, he got involved in narcotics (both taking and supplying), he got involved in antiques fraud, he has a pronounced drink problem on top of this, he claims to support Bali yet has been banned from every Bali related forum going (just go and check); Bali Expat Forum, Bali Geek Forum, Bali Pod Forum, Bali Travel Forum, Bali & Lombok Travel Forum, Bali Nuts Forum to name but a few. Go visit these forums and ask the question "What do you think about Roy Thompson of Ubud?" and see the massive response you will get! Poor sicko Roy Tompson has gotten so bad he has even created blogs to retort to anything said about on the forums he has been banned from; the trouble is, Roy is the only one who reads and responds (using one of several aliases) to what he writes!

His former best friend (before me), alias "Frogy" (real name not shown for obvious reasons), who Roy helped move to Bali and actually got Frogy and his wife a house near his own in the village of Bunutan-Kedewatan near Ubud, let Roy down badly. On one sad night when Frogy's wife was away and Roy was having one of his many marital problems with his wife Ni Nyoman Eri (nicknames "Man" and "Orang Utan"), Roy went out and got so drunk he woke up in a drainage ditch next to the Neka Museum the next morning. During Roy's binge his wife "Man" (presumably so called because she looks somewhat like a man) took advantage of also drunk Frogy out of spite against Roy. Unfortunately for Roy and his problems, Nyoman AKA Man AKA Orang Utan became pregnant with Frogy's child. Frogy left Bunutan-Kedewatan very quickly and was no longer Roy Thompson's best friend, to say the least.

You can find pictures of some of Ni Nyoman Eri's children here: Ubudian - this is an old web page by Roy before he got banned there too. If you look at the pictures of three of Nyoman's children you will see there are big differences between them. At best some people say one or maybe two of Man's children are Roy's, and it is alleged she has had 6 children in total now, though Roy now claims she has three and that they are all his.

Roy's only solace is an endless tirade of abuse on blogs against other people. Alone in his sad little house, no time for his or rather his wife's children, it can only be a matter of time before Roy becomes a danger to himself and those around him. Please, someone help Roy to get help soon!

Roy Thompson - Ubud Gallery & Narcotics Consultant, Art Ager, Jewelry Ager / Faker

In the USA Roy Thompson was an insurance administration supervisor for medical negligence / liability claims (nice!). Unfortunately there were no such positions for Roy to spend his time and earn a crust in Bali. So after a while, Roy reinvented himself as a "Gallery Consultant", someone who would pretend to know stuff about stuff sold in art galleries, both from trying to make some marketing cash from gallery owners and also getting a commission from anything they sold when he introduced customers to them. In addition, Roy found a profitable business quietly and discretely supplying narcotics to other foreigners at Naughty Nuri's Warung.

Roy Thompson did not make much from being a gallery consultant, so he decided to get into sales of "artifacts" and "gem stones" via the Internet, particularly eBay where he ultimately was banned for selling fake platinum. Roy would taken modern replica art made in Java and "age" it to look like it was antique. He would also take low cost semi-precious stones, put them in "brassed" metal jewelry and sell them on as valuable antiques. He once made the mistake of trying to do this through a well known gallery in Ubud and subsequently has been blacklisted by the entire Ubud gallery community.

Roy got lucky in that he was appointed to sell a good number of artifacts from the estate of deceased Dr. Maurius Van den Hout in Bali. Unfortunately Roy got caught out by The Australian Center for Anthropological Research adding a few of his own, more recent "aged" pieces into Van den Hout's collection, which he sold under that deceased gentleman's good name. The Van den Hout family have now taken back Maurius' collection from Roy Thompson.

Roy still peddles "artifacts" and "jewelry" a bit on the Internet where he can, but these days he relies increasingly on his drugs business. With an estimated 80% plus of foreign expats in Bali taking narcotics regularly, this is good business for Roy as expatriates know they can not trust Indonesian dealers.

Ni Nyoman Eri, AKA "Man" (her husband Roy's nickname for her - it's true, read his own words on the Bali Pod forum from where he has been banned), AKA "Orangutan" (her sons' pet name for her), AKA "The Ubud Mama" (a name given to her by locals, as she runs the "special massage" services for the town). Nyoman, to use her correct first name, used to work as a shop assistant and "bar fly" in Legian when husband Roy met her 10 years or so ago. Let me explain, "bar flies" aka "night butterflies" aka "Kupu Kupu Malam" are not strict brothel workers but rather freelancers looking for generous boyfriends. Yes, they generally will sleep with virtually anyone for a fee, but their tasks are to supplement their meagre incomes, be treated well (taken out to dinner, etc.) and to find a regular, normally much older western male partner with the hope they will one day get married.

Nyoman was a little bit naughtier than most Kupu Kupu Malams as she did put it around a little bit more than normal, but she explained this once to me "Before I settle on Roy, I want make sure he the right one for me."; read into that what you will. I think Nyoman actually enjoys her "horizontal work" and I am sure she was either after a much better looking or an even older partner; favorite Kupu Kupu Malam saying "Get young, better be good looking and have enough money. Get old, better die soon and have any money".

Nyoman with many children and a few years of Roy is clearly past her prime now, and not so sought after when there are much younger and prettier butterflies to pollenate. But Nyoman is a wiley canny lady and realised she needed to get into management early on. First showing younger relatives the ropes, then neighbours and friends from her village of Bunutan - Kedewatan near Ubud; a well known sex industry village (in Bali they have two dedicated sex worker villages - Bunutan / Kedewatan in the South, Bunkulan in the North). Nyoman's smile and on the "ground" knowledge of what certain foreigners wanted has made this quite a successful cottage industry for her.

I Wayan Bima (AKA Wayan Beem), I Made Rama Wishnu (AKA Ra) and I Nyoman Ari (AKA Mang) are three of Ni Nyoman Eri's six children and the three claimed by Roy Thompson, though it is certain only one or two of them at most are his. Just check their photos:

The boy to the left is I Wayan Bima; his real father is believed to be the famous black surfer Solo Scott; you can see "Wayan Beem" clearly is a lot darker and with totally different facial features (not common to his mother or Roy Thompson) to the other 2 boys. The boy to the right is I Made Rama Wishnu; he is probably crying because he is accredited with being the only one of Ni Nyoman Eri's children who was actually fathered by Roy Thompson. The little boy on his mother's lap is I Nyoman Ari; Mang is rumoured to be Roy Thompson's former best friend Frogy's child.

I took this photo in 2007; Nyoman is laughing because her husband was away in Java stealing artefacts and I quipped "Why does Roy only bring back face masks that look like himself?" To see what I mean, here is one of the items Roy sold illegally on eBay recently;

Because weekends are generally busy for Roy and Nyoman, with Roy stealing Javanese artefacts and bringing back marijuana to sell, and Nyoman servicing the local tourism's special massage needs, they often send the boys (all six of them) to their Uncle Jack's; I do not know much about Jack except he apparently works in tourism in Sanur and has a remote village home where he "cares" for the boys, so I believe him to be Jack Daniels of Bali Discovery Tours. Roy has often said how generous Jack has been to his boys as they often come back with many candies and even a few dollars in their little hands. Roy also says he thinks Jack is some dietitian as (Roy said) "I do not know what Jack gives them, but it sure as heck cures their constipation". Roy has also commented how the boys like to stand around outside pretending to smoke cigarettes and don't seem to want to sit dwon for days. Poor Roy, if only he knew.

The problem of Indonesian antiquities being sold and exported illegally with Bali the centre for this criminal activity is well known; Illegal Indonesian Antiques sold in Bali. Roy Thompson is majabali on eBay, the real Mad Hatter of Bali. Roy Thompson is a nasty criminal selling Indonesian historical items on eBay; exporting Indonesian cultural artifacts is prohibited, a crime. He is nasty because he has re-registered his eBay account (opened by him on 7th December 1996 in the USA) to his wife and the Indonesian business (CV TAMAN REJEKI) registered in her name, not his. This means if anyone ever is prosecuted for this criminal activity, Roy has made sure it will be his poor Balinese wife, not himself.

As well as prohibited cultural antiquities, Majabali also illegally sells / exports (restricted) general antiques via eBay; like with any country, exports of antiques from Indonesia need to have an export permit issued by the relevant authority (in Indonesia this is the Ministry of Commerce). Majabali does not obtain export permits for the antiques he sells in his wife's name. How do I know this? Because DHL, who Majabali states on their eBay auctions they use; a) DHL do not carry antiques as a matter of company policy and b) DHL Indonesia has disclosed that Majabali only declares their shipments to be "Base Metal" and / or "Art Sculpture", so majabali lies on the DHL waybill and the all important Customs Declaration, which means majabali does not get export permits, so everything he sells on eBay is illegal;

Most of Roy Thompson AKA majabali's customers are in the USA. Probably most of them know what Roy is doing is illegal, but do not care. eBay's so called "Trust and Safety" department has been informed of the above with documented evidence and legal citations but have not acted as they are legally bound, living up to their nickname "Greedbay" yet again. What majabali's customers and eBay do (by not acting) is illegal under US law. Antiques imported into the USA without an export permit from the country of origin are legally considered stolen under the U.S. National Stolen Property Act. Greedbay are therefore criminal accessories to grand theft, while majabali's customers are guilty of receiving stolen goods.

So if you buy from majabali (if he has not been stopped), look out! Not only could you lose your money / antique, but you could also end up being fined or even go to jail! The sick thing is, Roy Thompson, by setting his wife up for any criminal prosecutions in Bali, is the only one who likely will not be fined or jailed. It seems Indonesian law needs to change.
